-    Food (non-perishable, frozen and fresh, based upon availability,) is distributed in pre-packaged amounts based upon family size.  Persons in need of food call the office and speak with a social worker; appointments are then scheduled for food pick-ups and persons are instructed to drive around the HS building and stop in a designated area; their food is brought out to the pick-up area and when the staff member has returned to the building, the recipients load their food into their car.  In addition to food, other donated items (as supplies last) are provided, such as personal hygiene items, paper goods and household cleaning supplies.

-    In addition to offering food to anyone in need, the department is providing rent, utility and fuel assistance to eligible Groton households.  Applications for the latter programs are taken by phone and required documentation/verification of income, residency, etc., must be emailed, faxed, sent via US Mail or left in our secure drop box adjacent to our front door.

-    Applications for the holiday program (gift cards only this year) can be mailed to interested persons or they may be picked up at a designated outside location at our building.  Documentation necessary to complete the holiday applications must be emailed, faxed, sent via US mail or left in our secure drop box.  The distribution of holiday gift cards to pre-registered households will take place Dec 15-17, 9AM-4PM.  Entry to the building will be limited to ONLY those persons who have pre-registered for the holiday distribution.  Those pre-registered persons picking up gift cards will need to park in our lot, enter our building through the main front door, stop at the entrance to our lobby area, receive their cards and exit immediately via the handicap ramp door.  Everyone entering the building will be required to wear a mask and socially distance if a line exists to receive the gift cards.

-    Children/youth receiving counseling from the Youth Counselor in the department are given the option of virtual sessions or meeting in person, socially-distanced, wearing masks, in our conference room.  If in-person counseling is requested by the client/client’s family or recommended by the Counselor, parents/caregivers must give prior consent to the in-person sessions and the Town’s established safety precautions for Covid-19 must be adhered to.
