Groton Parks & Recreation: Park Improvement Projects

Park infrastructure replacement and new construction are investments in the community. Many of the projects are based on needs identified in the 2020 Community Needs Survey and align with our Strategic Plan to “Plan, design, build and maintain new facilities that are accessible to individuals and community groups of all physical capabilities, skill levels, age groups, income levels, cultural groups and activity interests.”  Each Groton Park & Recreation parks improvement project is listed below based on what stage of the process it is in. Groton Community Center Field Restoration

Description
Project includes regrading of athletic field to improve drainage and make conditions safer by removing uneven surface. Irrigation system will be installed to help maintain healthy turf conditions.

Hockey Rink Renovation

Description    
Boards surrounding the hockey rink were removed and newer used boards are being installed. New surface and lines will be painted as part of the project. The original Boards around the hockey rink were donated to the Town from Connecticut College. After 15+ years, the wooden boards are being replaced with aluminum boards. The playing surface is also being patched and repainted. In conjunction with this project, 6 pickleball courts are being installed. The pickleball courts and hockey rink will have lights.

Poquonnock Plains Park -  Walking Path Lighting

Description:
Lights were installed along the walking path to extend available use during evening hours. 52 Solar powered architectural lights were installed around the walking path at PPP and the parking lot. This was an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funded project. the walking path is used steadily from morning to evening. Installing lights allows walkers/runners to utilize the walking path later into the evening.
