Shennecossett Golf Course: History
Shennecossett is a word used by the Pequot Tribe meaning “Level Land” according to “Indian Place Names of New England," compiled by John C. Hudson, National Museum of the American Indian. The golf course is located in Groton which occupies land that was the ancestral home of the Pequot and Mohegan Tribes.
