Parks and Forestry

The Parks and Forestry Division continues to maintain all parks, athletic fields, school grounds, open space, public properties, 13 cemeteries, and the trails in Copp Property and Pequot Woods. It also hosts the annual Arbor Day event by planting new trees around town. Through the efforts of the Parks Division and the Department of Public Works, Groton was selected as a Tree City USA for the 18th consecutive year.

Poquonnock Plains Park

150 Fort Hill Road

Poquonnock Plains Park is conveniently located just a quarter mile from the intersection of Rte. 117 and Route 1. The large multi-use natural turf field is designed to feature three soccer fields measuring  120 x 70  yards and can accommodate a variety of activities including soccer, ultimate Frisbee, football, lacrosse etc.

Sutton Park

185 Fort Hill Road

Sutton Park is located off of Route 1. This two field complex features Dan Nelson baseball field and one softball field. Dan Nelson Field can accommodate youth baseball and softball with various base and mound lengths and 200 foot outfield fence.
The softball field can accommodate youth and high school softball with various base and mound lengths and a 220 foot outfield fence.
